Diagnosis - Benign - Usual epithelial hyperplasia (UEH) and apocrine metaplasia (AM)

Features to note - UEH:


• Duct lumen partly filled with crowded epithelial cells



• Cells appear to stream with nuclear overlap.
  
  
• Two epithelial cell types can bee seen in ducts - more easily appreciated with immuno



• Slit-like spaces rather than punched out holes between epithelium

Features to note - AM:


• Duct lumen partly filled with large epithelial cells with pink granular cytoplasm



• Papillary pattern may be seen



• Some nuclear atypia allowed with enlarged nuclei and prominent nucleoli commonplace
