Benign microcalcification (2)
This is part 2 of the more common benign causes of breast
microcalcification. These are new examples of the conditions in question - more
can be found on the relevant 'benign' pages elsewhere on the site and cross-links
are given frequently.
Old fibroadenomas
- Very common in old sclerosed fibroadenomas and a common cause of calcs in the screening setting
- Radiologically can be concerning if the underlying rounded mass lesion is not obvious
- Usually coarse and stromal
- Uncommon in the more cellular fibroadenomas seen in younger patients

Atypical lobular hyperplasia (ALH)
- Calcification is common in ALH but ALH is an uncommon finding overall in screening
- Calcs are luminal and intermediate - coarse
